Phone makers selling in the EU now have to stock screens and batteries for seven years and share repair manuals. Our EU policy specialist Thomas Opsomer told TechRadar that phones still need heat to pry the screen loose, so the rules haven’t changed how phones are actually built.

This past Monday, refrigeration in supermarkets across seven European countries went haywire in a suspected cyberattack, and some freezers hit 50°C (122°F, for us Americans) before stores threw the food out. Refrigeration maker Danfoss says its equipment was involved, a good reminder that the more a freezer depends on a network, the more ways it has to fail.

Featured Project: BMW Turn Signal Switch
|
|
When the right turn signals on his classic BMW E28 535i quit, Chayton from our team traced the fault to the turn signal switch with a multimeter and the car’s wiring diagrams. A new switch costs over $200, so he desoldered the old one right in the car with his battery-powered FixHub, drilled out two rivets, and soaked the grimy contacts in an ultrasonic cleaner. After some fresh grease and a little solder, the blinkers work again.
