The Radiant Roundup- Tons of ideas to help you celebrate the faith in your home & classroom from Look to Him and be Radiant!

October Radiant Roundup

Hello friends! Happy October, the Month of the Holy Rosary, as well as Respect Life Month. There are SO.MANY.SAINTS to celebrate this month- Thérèse , Francis, Carlo, Faustina, JPII, and more! I hope you find tools in this month's Radiant Roundup to help your kiddos pray, learn, and celebrate all month long!

Rosary Resources

October is the month of the Rosary, so it's a perfect opportunity to share this beautiful prayer with our kids and students. Rather than just pull out a Rosary and start reciting the prayers, I think we need to slow down and first share with them the why and the how and the meaning behind this tradition. With that knowledge, its much more likely the Rosary, whether prayed completely or a decade at a time, will impact kids and help them know the major stories from the life of Christ.

Here's a shareable calendar for the month, a list of Rosary books to help you pray, and I've also got resources for the Rosary in Spanish and Portuguese

St. Thérèse of Lisieux

I know that I am getting our the Radiant Roundup a bit late to celebrate her feast day on October 1st, but Thérèse is so special to so many people, I figured you wouldn't mind too much if I still gave this new print of St. Thérèse a highlight here. I created this block print over the summer and then turned it into different sized digital prints and prayer cards for you. Feel free to print out and then ask for her intercession, especially for vocations, priests, and missions around the world!

Books about the Rosary

During this month of the Rosary, why not try a book to help kiddos (or yourself) pray the Rosary more deeply? I've collected a list of books about the Rosary that can aid your prayer. Some have prayer prompts, some help explain the Rosary, many have beautiful art (both sacred art as well as illustrations) to lead your meditation- there is a great variety and something for the whole family included!

Praying the whole Rosary can be intimidating for a child or to lead a classroom or family with variety of ages. Using books like these can provide guides and visuals to make the experience so much more prayerful and fruitful.

Bl. Carlo and Eucharistic Miracles

Bl. Carlo Acutis, a fast favorite of my students, is known for his love of Eucharistic Miracles. For his feast day on October 12th, why not learn more about Eucharistic Miracles from the very website that Bl. Carlo created! I've got activities for older and younger kids, as well as this coloring page and some great book recommendations about his life! These projects were also promoted by the USCCB's National Eucharistic Revival blog here.

October Book List

As I prepare my blog list each month, I pull books off my classroom shelves and sort and check to make sure I don't miss anything good. Prepping for October led me to a stack of so many books that I had to leave them in two giant piles! It's no surprise with the feast days favorite Saints like Thérèse, Francis, and JPII this month, but we also have Carlo Acutis, John Henry Newman, Margaret Mary Alacoque, Faustina, Teresa of Avila, the Guardian Angels, and of course tons of books on the Rosary. Go check out the list for some great books to add to your home or classroom library!

Hallowtide

I have to admit, all of the "camps" of opinions about Halloween can be confusing.  Ignore, avoid, or redeem? Revive the "holy day" in the holiday? Focus on the Saints, forget about the evil?

There is great truth in the traditions and rituals of Halloween! Instead of forgetting about them entirely, we can use it to teach kids about topics that can be easy to avoid, like death, purgatory, praying for the dead, relics, and good & evil.

These Halloween resources are over ten years old, but they still are helping me teach my student about the truth in Halloween and the connection to All Saints and All Souls Day. For older kids, you might also like these Memento Mori resources or this Relics workbook.
